Walkabout Creek

This jewel is located just 12 kilometres from Brisbane CBD. If you are looking for a stunning venue for you wedding reception or a beautiful setting for your next conference, this could be just the place you are looking for.

But this is so much more than just a fabulous venue, it is also home to the Walkabout Creek Wildlife Centre. The friendly staff can provide information about tourist attractions, nature reserve and even book you a spot on any Go Bush activity you fancy.

For a small entrance fee, you gain access to the wildlife park and I can’t recommend it highly enough. We were delighted by the walk in aviary and the variety of birds. There are the usual Australian animals like wallabies and wombats and then there is the extraordinary platypus to enchant you. Whether you get to see this wonderful creature is totally up to him, he comes and goes as he pleases. The wildlife park also houses turtles, fish, nocturnal marsupials and reptiles. It is open from 9am to 4.30pm.

Starting from the Wildlife Centre there are two walking tracks. Both are Class 3 which means you need a reasonable level of fitness and ankle-supporting footwear.

Corymbia circuit is a 1.5km loop winding through a wet forest gully and quite steep in places. We chose to the 5km Araucaria track. It meanders along the shores of Enoggera Reservoir and loops back onto itself.

Once back, do pop into the Green Tree Frog Café. It is open 7 days a week with a great menu.  More photos.
