I like to explore with no agenda or destination in mind. A while ago we had a couple of hours between dropping off and picking up kids to explore the area around Ipswich. Hardings Paddock is one of the gems we discovered.
Aside from enjoying a picnic at one of the sheltered barbeque areas, the area also caters for bushwalking, horse riding and mountain biking. If hiking is your thing, you can embark on a short bush tucker trail or hike to Rocky Knoll or Goolman Lookout.
It is a 2.4km return hike to Rocky Knoll. This moderate hike will take you through eucalypt woodlands with glimpses of the scenic rim and wider Ipswich area along the way.
The Goolman Lookout hike is a multi-user trail and forms part of the Boonah to Ipswich Trail. It is a 5.6km return hike that provides views of Mt Goolman, Ivory’s Rock, the Scenic Rim and Brisbane.
For horse riders there is a 9km trail that allows them to do a circuit of the Hardings Paddock Picnic Area as well as taking in Goolman and Rocky Knoll Lookouts. There is a horse float parking facility within the picnic area.
In addition there are also camping facilities available at Hardings Paddock. Facilities for campers include toilets, camp shower cubicles, kitchen, barbecues, tables and a holding yard for horses. It is suitable for caravans and campervans. For bookings visit Discover Ipswich
