This centre is operated by the University of Wollongong and located at the Innovation Campus on Squires Way in Fairy Meadow. It is open almost every day of the year from 10am to 4pm.
It offers hands-on experience in the two-storey Exhibit Hall. We really enjoyed the hydraulic elephant and the robotic arm. There are more than a 100 interactive exhibits on everything from dinosaurs to modern technology.
There is a very interesting exhibit with live bees hard at work on the first floor. It is also the place where you’ll encounter dinosaurs, fossils, gyroscopes and fascinating pictures from galaxies to study with the aid of a magnifying glass.
For $3 per person extra you can immerse yourself in the BlueScope Steel Planetarium. It is the only major planetarium in NSW. The astronomy shows cater for the whole family. The Planetarium also offers laser concerts for groups of 30 or more, bookings essential.
The Illawarra Coal Science Theatre puts on shows like “The Liquid Nitrogen Show” and “Bubbles and Balloons Show”. They are available for public viewing during weekends and school holidays.
Pop into the Science Centre Shop at the end of your visit to pick up something to extend your learning experience or just for fun.
Entry fees apply to the centre.
